The presently popular wind turbine concept (Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine) is not suitable for floating offshore applications because of its top-heavy design. The future of floating offshore wind turbine may be different from onshore and bottom-fixed-offshore wind turbines. This movie shows the Experiment of Floating Axis Wind Turbine in a circulating water channel. The floating Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) rotor is quite stable in wind, water current and wave condition. At present, however, the model and the experimental setup need improvements for quantitative measurements.
