Life in the accessible "middle hills" of Nepal, recorded during the monsoon season (July) and in the dry season (November). The locations in this video all have road access and are easily accessible from Kathmandu. The Mahabharat Range of mountains lie between the ice clad peaks of the Himalayas to the north and the populous and flat Terai to the south. Elevations are between 1,500 and 2,700 metres. The southern slopes of the Mahabharat Range are steep and largely uninhabited, but the crest and northern slopes slope gently enough to support upland pastures and terraced fields. Nepal's densely populated middle hills begin along the crest, extending north through lower valleys and other "hills" until population thins out above 2,000 meters. SCENES: Annapurna Range from Tansen and individual peaks from near Pokhara. Wet season: Hill top roads and village around Dapcha, rice planting in the fertile valley and the Newar village of Chitlang. Dry Season: Life on the ridge tops, harvesting millet, ploughing, harvesting rice terraces and the splendid swings built for Dashain. In contrast to the base camp treks, the middle hills give an insight into the rich culture and way of life.
